A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Autobiography (Man without Fear )| History, About His Family, Studies, Awards

A.P.J Abdul Kalam was a famous aerospace scientist in India. He took birth in Tamil Nadu on 15 October 1931 and died on 27 July 2015 in Meghalaya. 

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defense  Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) were his famous works. 

Pokhran is the first-ever nuclear test is done by him in 1974. He completed his studies in the fields of aerospace and engineering. He became the 11th President of India right from 2002 to 2007. Both the parties: Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress, elected A.P.J Abdul Kalam as the 11th President of India. Peoples' President and   Missile Man of India were his famous names.

About his Family

His mother was a housemaker named Ashiamma. His father was the owner of a boat named Jainulabdeen Marakayar and imam of a mosque. He was the smallest child of his parents. They were a total of five siblings. 

He did everything from small work to big to make his parents and siblings happy. He enjoyed living a very simple life and never had a hunger for anything. He struggled a lot throughout his life. He had a fixed sleeping and rising time.

Studies

At an early age, he studied at Schwartz Higher Secondary School. He had a keen interest in the fields of science and technologies. He was not a bright student but a hardworking one. He loved mathematics. For his higher studies, he took admission to Saint Josephs College in Tiruchirappalli, and in 1954 graduated in physics. 

He did his aerospace engineering in 1955 at the Madras Institute of Technology. He faced many ups and downs during his studies. Many times he was threatened because of lack of progress. But did not lose faith in his capabilities and hard work.

His famous writings

India 2020 written by him, mentions a plan to make India a developed nation by 2020. He wanted to make India progress in the fields of agriculture, education, and healthcare, technologies, quality transport,  and infrastructure. A book named  Transcendence: My Spiritual Experiences with Para much Swamiji was his famous writing. 

His other famous books are Mission India, Indomitable Spirits, Ignited Minds, Wings of  Fire,  Envisioning an Empowered Nation, My Journey, etc.

His awards and honorary Degrees

a. He was awarded as a distinguished fellow with the National Academy of Medical sciences.

b. Nanyang Technological University awarded him with Honorary Doctor of Engineering in Singapore, 2008.

c. American Society of Mechanical Engineers offered him the Hoover medal in 2009, USA.  

d. The Scotland University named the University of Edinburgh honored him with Honorary Doctor of Science.

e. In the USA,  He was also given the award of IEEE Honorary Membership by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
