The elections are done every five years for Lok sabha. The Prime minister is the supreme officer of the government of India and is elected by the president.
Here is the list of the pm after India's independence:
1. Jawaharlal Nehru (1947-1964)
Jawaharlal Nehru is the foremost prime minister of India after independence. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru served the country for 17 long years.
2. Gulzarilal Nanda (1964-1964)
Gulzarilal Nanda was the acting PM of the country for two short periods. He fought election from the constituency Sabarkantha, Gujrat. He served as pm for 13 days.
3. Lal Bahadur Shastri (1964-1966)
Lal Bahadur Shastri was India’s second prime minister. He was a member of the Indian National Congress (INC). He served the country for one year, 216 days.
4. Indira Gandhi (1966-1977)
Indira Gandhi was the first woman prime minister of India. She was appointed as pm by V.V Giri. She was the daughter of Jawaharlal Nehru. Indira Gandhi was the prime minister of India for 11 years and 59 days.
5. Morani all Desai (1977-1979)
He was a member of the Janata Party. His tenure as pm was two years 126 days. After that, he resigned.
6. Chaudhary Charan Singh (1979-1980)
He was a member of the Janata Party. He served as pm for 170 days. His constituency was bhagat, Uttar Pradesh.

Rajiv Gandhi was the son of Indira Gandhi. He was the 7th prime minister of the country. He served the country as PM for five years 32 days.

9. Chandra Shekhar (1990-1991)
Chandra Shekhar was the 9th pm in India. He served for 223 days as a PM of the country.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as the prime minister of India. His constituency was Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. His tenure as prime minister was six years and 64 days.
14. Manmohan Singh (2004-2014)
Manmohan Singh was the 14th pm of India as well as the MP for Rajya sabha of Assam. He was a famous delegate of the Indian National Congress (INC). His tenure as pm was ten years.
15. Narendra Damodardas Modi (1950-)
Narendra Modi is the present-day prime minister of India. His tenure is six years till now.
