Mahatma Gandhi, or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, was an Indian nationalist and activist.

His birthday is celebrated on 2nd October as a festival which is also known as 'Gandhi Jayanti.'

He is known as the father of the nation and also as Bapu (Father). He was a person who always walked in the way of non-violence and truth.

His great contributions made India independent in 1947.

He also went to study abroad in England to become a lawyer. His contributions are well known by people all around the globe.

He was known for his simplicity and was considered a famous personality in politics and a writer.

Due to his fight against Britishers, he was sent to jail many times but remains cherished.
    
Mahatma Gandhi's great works set examples for many people.

He never discriminated against anyone based on caste, religion, color, culture.

He treated everyone with equal respect. He helped many poor and improved their lives.

He wore simple clothes like dhoti made of khadi.

He used to make khadi from his spinning wheel, also called a charkha.

There are two most famous sayings by Mahatma Gandhi.

The first says that help others as much as you can without expecting anything. Help others even if you lose something.

The second saying says that people will make fun of you, they will even fight with you, but you have to stay calm and patient. His moral was to help others with full dignity and with determination.

 

Studies of Mahatma Gandhi

Mahatma Gandhi did his schooling at a local school when he was nine years old.

He studied many languages, arithmetic, geography, etc.

When he turned 11, he was promoted to high school.

He got married after high school, and then he did his college at Samaldas College in 1888, located in Bhavnagar.

He went to London for his further studies to do law.

He practiced his studies of law at Bombay High Court.

 

Contributions

1. He made India independent from the Britishers in 1947.

2. He began a movement called Satyagraha which was based on non-violence.

3. Mahatma Gandhi also set Dandi Salt March in the year 1930, which was around 400 km for the Britishers who imposed a tax on salts.

4. He also started Quit India Movement just to end the rule of Britishers in India.

5. Mahatma Gandhi introduced Natal Indian Congress (NIC) for the rights of the people of South Africa.

6. Non-Cooperation Movement, Swaraj, and Civil Disobedience Movement were some of the well-known movements led by him.

7. A famous book is written by him, namely, "The story of My Experiments with Truth."

8. Mahatma Gandhi led many rallies worldwide for eradicating untouchability, providing women with their rights, building religious peace.
