10 Insane Science Facts for Children

Science Facts

The world is made up of different wonders and complex mechanisms that humans are still trying to decode.

However, many extraordinary phenomena already have a scientific explanation.

Therefore, this article highlights some of these awesome science facts along with the reasons behind them.

1. Over 650V of electricity can be produced by an electrical eel

The electric organ of an electric eel is made up of almost 5000-6000 cells called electro plaques or electrolytes that are ordered in series.

Whenever the specialized nervous system of eels sends signals, these cells produce electricity.

2. There are nine brains and three hearts in octopuses

An octopus contains a Central brain alongside eight smaller brains which are present in its eight arms.

It also has two hearts for pumping blood to the gills and a third for circulating it.

3. Cats always land on their feet

While falling, cats move in a rapid rotation using two half of their bodies.

This allows them to control the side that will be up.

It keeps the front legs close to the face and the hind legs underneath to be safe from the fall.

4. Bumblebees are capable of flying higher than the Everest

Bumblebees move their wings with a broader arc.

To make up for the low air pressure at higher altitudes, the more expansive range of their wings allows a bumblebee to beat their wings more forward and backward, thus making them go higher.

5. The growth of Banana defies gravity

Bananas grow upside down. However, at the beginning of their growth, they hang downwards.

This upside-down growth starts when the negative geotropism pheromone starts working due to more absorption of sunlight.

6. The weight of a hundred elephants and an average cloud is the same

A cloud's total weight is based upon the uncountable small water droplets it holds. The tiny size makes these droplets immune to gravity, increasing the cloud's weight.

7. The surface temperature of Venus is more than 450-degree centigrade

There is a dense layer of atmosphere in Venus made of carbon dioxide.

Therefore sunlight that Venus receives gets trapped and is not allowed to travel back in space, making it the hottest planet of the solar system.

8. Stainless steel can get dissolved in stomach acid

Hydrochloric acid, potassium chloride, and sodium chloride are the components that make up gastric acid or stomach acid.

Therefore, this acid becomes of pH 2-3 and corrosive enough to dissolve stainless steel.

9. Decomposition of plastic and glass takes more than 450 years and 5000 years, respectively

Glass and plastic are carbon-made items.

Moreover, organisms that conduct decomposition are capable of breaking down only specific kinds of bonds that are common in nature.

Hence, these organisms take a lot of time to decompose glass and plastic.

10. There are dimples in the golf ball

This is done to make golf balls travel greater distances than non-dimpled balls.

It applies an aerodynamics principle where the dimples force the flow of air down, making the ball go higher and further.

Therefore, these are some of the awesome science facts that are sure to increase the interest regarding scientific knowledge within an individual.
