science hacks in daily life

In our daily lives, small mishaps happen every now and then.

This content will discuss some chemistry hacks that help us overcome these problems with time-saving and straightforward solutions.

The application of Chemistry is not restricted to the Kitchen but in every corner of the entire household.

Let us know some interesting facts about Chemistry in our daily life.

Facts about Cold Drink

Cold Drink is in high demand among the young generation people.

We all know that, but how many people know that cold drinks help polish old coins and silver?

Cold drinks contain two chemical elements – Phosphoric Acid and Citric Acid.

Phosphoric Acid balances the sour and sugar elements in the drink and Citric Acid decreases the pH level of the drink, which enables cold drink to cut through soap, scum, rust and hard water.

The Phosphate in Cold drinks helps to remove the rust from iron in daily life.

How to check the Quality of Eggs

A few Chemistry experiments have shown up how to check whether eggs are fresh or not!

It is really hard to identify fresh eggs until you crack those, but you can identify the rotten eggs even before cracking them.

Take a bowl of room temperature water and place the egg in it.

If the egg sinks, you will know it is fresh, but if the egg floats, you should rethink.

Due to the round yolk and thick white membrane, the fresh eggs are weighty and sink down.

On the other hand, the membranes of the comparatively older eggs are less thick, which makes the egg sit upright but not float.

The rotten eggs float as it emits hydrogen sulphide.

Remove Gum from Hair

One of the old remedies to remove gum from your hair is to apply a tablespoon of peanut butter or mayonnaise to the gum.

The butter acts as an effective conditioner that makes the hair greasy and compels the gum to lose grip and slide from the hair.

Vaseline or cooking oil also is applicable in this condition.

Please don't rub it rapidly and use a comb to brush the hair.

Add Salt to Coffee

If ever you feel like wasting a cup of coffee because you find the taste to be too acidic, you can add more salt to the coffee.

Sometimes, the bitterness of the coffee comes out of Chlorogenic Acid Lactones and Phenylindanes, and when you add some salt, it releases sodium ions.

When you drink coffee, the sodium ions will block your taste receptors from detecting the bitter taste.

Remove Gum from Clothes and Shoes

You may rub some sand to remove the gum stuck to your clothes or shoes.

You can also apply heat to make the gum lose its grip.

You can place cardboard between the cloth and the iron board.

Place the iron on the top until the gum changes its position from your clothing to the cupboard.

Sand is the best option to remove gum from shoes.
