Different Unknown Underwater Creatures

Unknown Underwater Creatures

The world underneath the ocean remains unknown and is full of breath-taking natural wonders.

Some of the vegetation and ocean creatures on the ocean floor seem like they belong to some other planet.

Animals like Sun coral, sea anemone stunning organisms that add beauty to the world under the ocean.

Following is a list weirdest animals ever found under the sea.

1. Clownfish and Anemone

Clownfish are the only species that are not affected by the stings of a sea anemone.

This bright orange and white-coloured fishes hide within the grass like tentacles of this animal.

These two features share a symbiotic relationship.

However, not all sea anemones and clownfish can co-exist.

Typically, the clownfish develops a thick layer of mucus to protect itself from the powerful stings of the anemone.

2. Red Sea Whip

It is a type of soft coral that has a bushy outgrowth.

The red sea whip belongs to the Ellisellidae family.

Unlike hard corals, soft corals are devoid of calcium carbonate skeletons.

There are countless coral polyps on every branch of the sea whip.

Polyps are responsible for producing food.

It lives in shallow waters in subtropical and tropical regions.

This variety of coral grows in all parts of the world.

3. The Atlantic Wolf Fish

It is a predator species of fish that primarily feeds on spine and hard-bodied invertebrates.

Atlantic wolffish usually prey on organisms like giant marine snails and surgeons.

This species of fish is not aggressive towards other ocean animals and less provoked.

These fishes can grow up to 5 feet and reside in the Arctic oceans and North Atlantic.

They primarily inhabit chillier water and live in depths of 1640 feet.

This fish is also known as wolf eel because of its long eel-like body structure.

4. Japanese Spider Crab

This variety of crab is only native to the Pacific Ocean.

The crabs are more than 44 pounds and grow around 15 inches wide.

It is the largest known arthropod on the planet.

5. The Blobfish

It is known as the world's ugliest creature.

This fish belongs to the fathead sculpin family and is commonly found in the Indian oceans Pacific and Atlantic.

The blobfish lives at depths of 9200 feet.

Fishes mostly stay afloat with the support of swim bladders.

However, the bodies of the blobfish are less dense than water and remain afloat with the help of the ocean.

6. Chimaera or Ghost Shark

It is a type of cartilaginous fish that belongs to the Shark family.

This species of fish primarily inhabits cold waters at a depth of over 8200 feet.

Scientists have identified around 47 species of radius shapes and sizes.

As per archaeological evidence, the chimaera has been in existence for millions of years.

Some of the fossil specimens are more than 280 million years old.

7. Faceless Cusk Eel

This faceless creature is known as the demon of the fish world. It lives at a depth of 13000 feet under the water.

The mouth of this creature rests below the body.

It is a protrusible opening that extends to grab food and then disappears.

8. Purple Coral

The vibrant lilac color of this coral creates a stunning site at the bottom of the ocean.

The Acropora variety of coral is the most abundant on the seafloor.

These create habitats for various sea organisms and fishes.

Besides, the purple coral provides shelter to other forms of coral.

9. Open brain coral

The Open brain coral is common in the shallow warmer waters of the Red sea, Australian archipelago, and Indonesia.

The absence of coral reef habitat and excess harvesting for aquariums has made open-brain coral nearly extinct.

These are very small in size and measure less than 8 inches.

It exists both in colonial and solitary form and sometimes lives among other varieties of living coral.

10. Slender Snipe Eel

It is one of the most compact deep-sea critters that can grow up to a length of 4 feet.

But they weigh less than 6-7 ounces.

According to research findings, this creature mainly uses its beak-like mouth to catch food.

The snipe eel can spawn once before they die.

The reproduction process is termed broadcast spawning, where both males and females release their sperms and eggs into a water column.

These are some of the strange sea creatures that adapted strange appearances to survive in extreme environments.

Scientists are still in search of rare sea creatures in the depth of the ocean.

Even today, researchers believe that there are countless species of marine creatures that are yet to be explored.
